Acrylics on Canvas
I have recently been spending many of the hot summer days inside my painting studio, rather than out in the wood-working studio. (Air-conditioning is so nice to have in Florida.) Going to the beaches along the Emerald Coast, I've been inspired to paint the surf and its incredible jewel-like tones of green and blue. To really capture the luminous qualities of the bright Florida sun, I've been working with a lot of transparent glazes. When set under a hot spotlight, the colors truly glow and shimmer. While mixing in the creamy seafoam colors, I've been playing with some impasto techniques. The contrast between the transparent glazes and the application of thicker dabbles of paint on the canvas surface is delightful too.
